HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY September 14–20, 2026

This is the best explanation of how to read the Bible that I know…
#1711 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
September 8, 2026 I facepalm when people ask, “Is it biblical?” as though being found somewhere in the Bible automatically makes something Christlike. The Bible contains many things, and people can use “free will” to justify what already appeals to their own hearts and minds. In doing so, they can end up worshipping the bible but only the image of themselves rather than allowing it to transform them.
For Christians, Jesus calls us to listen to the Spirit, (John 16:13) which guides us toward the Bible’s true Christlike content, rather than simply searching its words for justification of what appeals to our hearts and minds. The challenge is not merely to know what the Bible says, but to allow Christ to transform us so that we recognize and live its message of love, grace, compassion and justice. ❤ Mark

Golf Tuesday, grateful…
#1712 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
August 10, 2026 I have to say it — senior golfers are among the most easy-going (most of the time) people around. I think the game was invented on our behalf. Let me list some of our qualifications: we need something to do, we’re retired — old men love to laugh and there’s plenty of jokesters — we still love a challenge, especially if it’s not too physically challenging — sharing a golf cart is one of the easiest ways to become friends — most of us realize there is a benevolent God who is enabling us to do this.

Icon or friend?

September 1, 2026 “Alas, many religious people prefer to merely believe in God instead of experiencing God and being in a relationship with the Divine.” — Roger Wolsey
So we have to ask ourselves, Is my religious experience more about ritual or interaction?

This one, I admit, is political…
#1714 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
September 5, 2026 One of my friends asked to be dropped from my email list because he doesn’t like my post about politics. Funny, I don’t feel like my posts are political, even if I write about Trump (or Talarico). I am a Christian. Jesus is my Lord and Savior. As best I can (and with His help), I am trying to see the world as He sees it. I once followed politics pretty closely. I can’t anymore because it breaks my heart. But I know my Bible well enough to know that Jesus’s heart especially goes out to the sick, to the needy, to the immigrants, to the mentally ill, to the prisoners, to the persecuted, to the homeless, to the poor. And those are exactly the people who are being most ignored in this political climate. I believe Jesus (with us) wants to fix that.

“Fix your minds on the things above…” (Colossians 3:2)
#1715 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
July 31, 2026 So what do I do? I don’t even want to control my mind. The bursts of creativity, the spontaneous feelings of joy, the freedom to roam…that’s all very precious. And so I’ve learned — it’s not about controlling my mind, it’s about directing it. I can see those negative quagmires, those worry traps, those feelings of foreboding coming. I can steer my way through them. I can also recognize all the positives that enter into my mind. But I can’t do it on my own. I’m not supposed to.

The gift is in the present…
#1716 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
September 3, 2026 I’ve been writing HGSTMT for almost five years. Certain themes keep coming up, and this is a major one: God is most accessible in the present. It is up to me to let go of my anxieties, quiet my mind, open my heart and meet Him here.

Family Sunday, the gamblers…
#1717 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
July 5, 2026 Look who the big winners were at the Texas Malmgren Family Reunion’s traditional game of Blitz! Could never have done it without my collaborators — hmmm, I never did see any of that money. Ah well, the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away; blessed be the name of the Lord. (Job 1:21)
