Golf Tuesday, an anecdote…

June 18, 2025 Five minutes after I almost got hit by a golf ball (so close!), a young man hit his ball by the fence in front of me. I learned he’d been at a Christian conference the past two days, and he and his friend decided to play a round of golf on their way home–their own Father’s day gift to themselves. His kids were 7 and 5 and 2. I told him of my six granddaughters, no grandsons. “That’s your fault, man, that’s your fault,” he said with a laugh. He was astounded that I had been married for 48 years. “How do you do it?” he said. “My wife, she’s…” He didn’t finish. “You just gotta love her,” I told him. “No matter what you gotta love her.” He brightened. “That’s right,” he said. “That’s what I been learning. Thank you, my brother.” It was a holy moment, for him and for me.

August 12, 2025 I had a revelation as I was praying on my back porch last evening: the first and most important thing God wants me to do in light of my new circumstances (injured shoulder, no golf) is to open wider the doorway to my heart. “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and dine with him, and he with Me.” (Revelations 3:20). I have trials ahead of me–I certainly don’t want to face them on my own.

July 25, 2025 I love it when my heart is flooded with the love of God. We are visiting my daughter in the house they just bought in Ann Arbor. It’s a modest house, but it seems just perfect for her and Dylan and Edith and Agnes. Nathan and Annalisa and Ayla are also visiting from Port Townsend, and they too seem to be doing quite well. It struck me as I went for a walk–God hears all those prayers that Karen and I continually send up for the well-being of our children.
