December, 2023 Gregorian chants. I and my son-in-law are the only people I know who listen to them. I think they are incredible–it is like hearing music from a different part of your brain. They are wonderful for meditation. They don’t engage me–they slide through me, encouraging me to think about God. They are not easy to dance to, but they work real well with a rocking chair.

December, 2023 Why golf is a spiritual exercise for me: 1) Because it is easier for me to sense His presence outdoors; 2) golf presents a unique test of my resolve, my emotions, my self-control, and my steadfastness; 3) the perfect golf shot is spiritual, not mechanical–I feel it when it happens (rarely, but enough); 4) the fellowship–a group of men striving together for a common goal creates brotherhood.

December, 2023 I have committed my life to God. Therefore, anything that happens to me is in my best interest. Whoa. Can that be true? If I get a speeding ticket? If I have an illness? What if the unspeakable happens, like a family tragedy? I have to believe it is so. He has promised to take care of me. He sees a much larger picture than I do. This has become our travel arrangement: I take responsibility for my actions and He manages the consequences. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for Your mercy and grace…

December, 2023 Just a closer walk with Thee. That is my chief aim at this point in my life. Seems like a simple plan, but it is not. God will not barge in. He comes more often in a whisper than a storm. So my obligation in O/our relationship is to pay attention…never an easy task for me. Paul Simon said it wonderfully in a song: “Slip sliding away, slip sliding away/ You know the nearer the destination the more you’re slip sliding away.”

Family Sunday at the volleyball tournament…
#864 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
January, 2024 My granddaughter is in her first year of club volleyball. There is a notable difference in junior sports when the level of play improves and the competition becomes more intense. What I enjoy most is seeing the players dig deep to bring forth their best effort and to work as a team. That builds character, which is way more important than winning.
