“I am old, I am old, I shall wear my trousers rolled..” –T.S. Eliot
#1483 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
June 11, 2025 God wants me to pay attention to the aging process, not ignore it or dismiss it or overcome it. He wants me to recognize limitations and healthful practices. He wants me to reach out to other seniors, especially those who are hurting. He wants me to stay strong in the faith and not be afraid. The wonderful flip side of aging is that spiritual doors are more easily opened. I have time…I have access. Lord, continue to build my desire to know You better.

Nice twist for me on Golf Tuesday…
#1484 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
June 8, 2025 I rode along with my son while he and his three friends played my golf course (I had already played in the morning). I loved having quality time with Zack, who likes golf as much as me but rarely has time for it. It was also nice to get to know his friends better, fine young gentlemen all. The universality of the fun men have competing against one another and trying to master a game they love made me realize anew what a gift golf is in my life. Thanks, Lord

“I got to admit it’s getting better, getting better all the time..” –the Beatles
#1485 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
May 23, 2025 I love imperfectly. That’s just the way it is. I do everything imperfectly. As in all things, if I practice and try really hard, I will get better and better at it. The Bible says we are perfected in love. Doesn’t that make perfect sense?

Praying and thinking…
#1486 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
June 20, 2025 I used to feel bad when I was praying and discovered that my mind had wandered off somewhere. I don’t so much anymore. I’ve realized that even if my mind roams, Jesus stays here. So I can always turn back to Him. Even better, I can take whatever territory my mind wandered into and put it under His authority. “Thy kingdom come, on earth as it is in heaven.”

Kite validation…
#1487 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
May 21, 2025 That is what I will call it. My wife and my friend and I have all had moments when whatever significant (or spiritual) event that was happening was tied to the appearance of a bird. I believe it happens to many people; the most famous of these occurrences is the dove descending upon the Lord at His baptism. Tonight I had a revelation validated by two Mississippi kites soaring through the sky. I love those moments. It’s like God has upped the volume on our conversation.

Amen, Willie…
#1488 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
May 24, 2025 God serenaded me through Willie again last night. His newest album is O What a Beautiful World. Even though he didn’t write most of the songs (Rodney Crowell did), Willie has a delivery that speaks directly to my soul. Here are a few nuggets:
–What kind of love never turns away/ What kind of love never makes you pay, hears you when you pray?
–I’ve tried to change without much luck/ I reach a point where I get stuck/ I hit the streets and the fireworks start/ It’s open season on my heart.
–Once inside a woman’s heart/ A man must keep his head/ Heaven opens up the door/ Where angels fear to tread.
–It’s the rise and the fall of the clocks on the wall/ And it’s the first and the last of your days flying past/ O what a beautiful world!
And, of course, the band plays beautifully together. Thanks, Lord

Oh, to be young again…
#1489 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
June 23, 2025 “…unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 18:3). Mason and I had about 30 minutes of unadulterated hilarity last evening. She was first learning to walk on her hands and then doing magic tricks with a paper napkin, and I was her interactive audience. I haven’t laughed that hard in years. Make me like a child, Lord
