June 20, 2026 Another brilliant scene from God on the golf course: A boyfriend and girlfriend (had to be) come riding down the cartpath. There is a light summer rain falling. He goes to hit his ball and she runs over to hers, which was closer to me. As he’s getting ready to hit, she starts dancing around to distract him. He kind of shanks it and she laughs. “That was good coaching,” I say. She smiles at me. ““I’m trying to win a bet.” She picks up her ball, throws it toward the green, and runs after it, laughing. It was a vision of young love, and it took me back. Thanks, Lord

June 23, 2026 The Southern Baptist Conference’s decision to ban women from the pulpit is one of the most backward steps I can imagine any sector of the church making. The patriarchal culture of Jesus’s (and Paul’s) time granted almost no rights to women. Just as it was with slavery, the church has played a big part in amending the inequalities inherent in that culture. Now these people want to move backward toward chauvinism and prejudice. Remember, “…in Christ there is neither male nor female…” (Galatians 3:28). Is the SBC proposing to preach outside of Christ? Not the kind of church I’m interested in.

June 24, 2026 So many details, so many arrangements, so many plans… Nothing compared to the unbridled joy of being with my wife, my three kids, their spouses, and the six granddaughters, with the added bonus of my oldest sister. God teaches us unconditional love through our families — but it’s not supposed to stop there.
