#760 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
July, 2023 “Then onward in the journey I come to understand that every hair is numbered, like every grain of sand.” –Bob Dylan. Another epitaph line. St. Paul says that nothing past present or future can separate us from the love of God in Christ (Romans 8:38). Dylan gets it. That is the purpose of the journey–to know His love.

Golf Tuesday and Happy Halloween!
#761 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
September, 2023. Such pleasure to be able to join the senior men for a round of golf after being unable to play for four weeks! Hard to say what I missed more, the sport or the men. Paraphrasing Eric Liddell in Chariots of Fire, I can feel God’s pleasure in a well-struck shot–and also in a friendly exchange with one of my buddies.

Just trolling for some encouragement for me and God (mostly me) on our two year anniversary…
#762 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
JULY, 2023. I began posting HGSTMT on November 1, 2021. I post it daily on Facebook and email it to about 80 of my family members and friends. Facebook “likes” and occasional comments are the primary feedback that I get. I will write this as long as I believe God wants me to regardless of any results. I hope this blog adds some small bit of light into the lives of those who read it. Honk if you hear me.

#763 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
September, 2023 A reflection on Spain: a grain of sand. As I watch the people go by, as I hear the many different tongues, as I tour the cathedrals and palaces and relics of posterity, as I sense the vitality of people living in a different culture, as I taste exotic cuisine (and inexpensive beer), as I consider that all this has developed over centuries…I realize I, an old man from Frisco Texas…I am but a grain of sand. Ah, but what a beautiful ocean!

#764 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
September, 2023. This from C.S. Lewis (again): “The worldly man treats certain people kindly because he likes them; the Christian, trying to treat everyone kindly, finds himself liking more and more people as he goes on–including people he could not even have imagined himself liking at the beginning.” This is proving true in my experience–but I can take no credit. “We love because He first loved us.” (I John 4:19)

From August when I was injured…
#765 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
August, 2023 Another thing God wants me to concentrate on is being present. Now that I think about it, this whole period (I’ll call it the Torn Bicep era) is like God has put me on a merry-go-round and the same messages keep popping up: Be healthy–reach out to people–be present–pay attention to Karen–pray and meditate–look for good deeds–cultivate the fruit of the Spirit–abide–be joyful. Nice curriculum!

An anxious Family Sunday…
#766 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
September, 2023 There are moments of realization that even when I tend to worry–about my daughter and her family starting a new chapter in their lives–about all of my granddaughters’ futures–about what Trump could do to America–about what Israel and Palestine could do to each other–about what climate change could do to our planet…God has all of this under control. The battle has already been fought and won. Worry = doubt. Teach me not to worry, Lord Jesus.
