April 22, 2026 Hmmm…that’s a hard one — it can so eas­i­ly turn into idol­a­try. But I can come up with some: * there’s the arche­type: my guys are the good guys and they beat the bad guys and the uni­verse is just (or so I wish); * depth of emo­tion — it evokes a pas­sion that does­n’t come up with most oth­er areas of my life; * the abil­i­ties of the ath­letes are God-giv­en tal­ents — I am amazed at the incred­i­ble skill lev­el they demon­strate in the most cru­cial sit­u­a­tions; * the team cre­ates a true fel­low­ship of fans — from peo­ple who text every game to strangers who strike up a con­ver­sa­tion; * when my team is play­ing well, the whole city is hap­pi­er — God wants peo­ple to be hap­py. Thanks for sports, Lord Jesus Go Spurs Go!

April 24, 2026 As our group (8 to 24) of old men gath­er on the first tee, there’s an almost pal­pa­ble sense of good humor. You’ll hear teas­ing and trash talk, side bets and, always, laugh­ter. Most every­body is hap­py to be where they are. As I learn to be unaf­fect­ed by the way I am play­ing — espe­cial­ly if I’m play­ing bad­ly — I can main­tain that sense of joy through­out the round, and, even bet­ter, car­ry it over to the rest of my day. God knew what He was doing when He inspired Old Tom Mor­ris (or who­ev­er it was) to invent golf.

So how do I set my inner GPS on this high­er road? MAY 21, 2026 Some­times God (through peo­ple) just pours out His grace upon me. I am, in fact, a peas­ant but I live like a king. Me and Zack and Josh (his best friend since ele­men­tary) drove to Okla­homa City and watched a Spurs game in hos­tile ter­ri­to­ry (great seats, loud­est are­na ever). We had an enter­tain­ing ride, played a fun golf course, stayed in a fab­u­lous Airbnb, Door Dashed every­thing, and recon­nect­ed in ways that move hearts. It did­n’t even mat­ter that the Spurs lost (we’ll get them next game). O Lord, con­tin­ue to lav­ish Your love upon us in ways that make Your pres­ence undeniable.

May 15, 2026 Spice got punked! One of the rea­sons I love my dog is we are around the same age if we go by the dog years for­mu­la. She can rouse up a high­er ener­gy lev­el, but she also sleeps 3 times more than I do. She con­sid­ers her­self mas­ter of the yard, and her great­est joy is to shoot out the slid­ing glass door and chase away any squir­rel that has wan­dered in. Today she met her match. The pho­to cap­tures it, but please note that Spice end­ed up slink­ing back to the porch to lay down while the squir­rel held her ground and con­tin­ued to chat­ter. She would­n’t even look at me she was so embar­rassed. Even dogs need humil­i­ty, Lord
