Appropriate since we also got rained out today…
#1441 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
May 9, 2025 “Into each life some rain must fall.”–Ella Fitzgerald
I have a tendency to paint rosy pictures. I make no apologies for that–my life is pretty rosy. That doesn’t mean perfect; I have setbacks, missteps, failures, rainy days. What the Holy Spirit is teaching me is that God is the same for all my days, and because of that, so am I. That’s how St. Paul could say “…I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.” (Philippians 4:11)
I am striving for the same attitude.

GT doesn’t always mean gifted and talented…
#1442 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
April 21, 2025 Golf Tuesday is one of my favorite classes at the University of God. The Professor knows how to make everything fun and challenging and uplifting (if I am willing). It creates a wonderful opportunity to work on the physical, the mental, and the spiritual all at the same time. Chances to express love are unlimited. And He always leaves me something to ponder. I can’t wait for tomorrow’s class.

Coming and going on the journey…
#1443 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
April 13, 2025 “Nearly all wisdom consists of two parts: the knowledge of God and the knowledge of ourselves…The knowledge of ourselves not only arouses us to seek God, but also leads us by the hand to find Him.” –John Calvin
I think of it as the outward/inward journey. I have to seek God in the world but I also have to seek Him from within.

One of my favorite adages…
#1444 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
May 29, 2025 “When God shuts a door…He opens a window” My proviso — (n.) — a condition attached to an agreement, i.e., it’s not there if you’re not willing to climb through it.
(at right, Window with Ladder, Too Late for Help by Leandro Erlich, at the Besthoff Sculpture Garden in New Orleans City Park)

“If you want to be happy, be.” –Leo Tolstoy
#1445 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
May 2, 2025 I make a big deal about how happy I am in retirement, but I suspect that is recency bias. I remember most all of my life being happy, with the occasional pitfalls and disasters. I realized early on that God intended for us to be happy, and I hopped on board that train. I don’t mean hedonism–I mean appreciation. Of course, the one big change came when I was 26 and became a Christian. God changed the direction of my life and is now turning happiness into joy. Lead on, Lord Jesus

Hear this, O Dallin…
#1446 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
May 8, 2025 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. (Isaiah 55:8). The danger in my writing project is for me to start thinking that whatever is on my mind is what God has put there. That’s no risk for others who can see me for what I am, but my ego is easily deceived. He believes the whole world should listen to me. My writing project is intended to be proclamation, not prophesy. This is what the Lord has done for me.

Family Sunday, the long and winding road…
#1447 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
May 27, 2025 Today is my son Nathan’s 45th birthday. He lives in Port Townsend and it seems I never get to see him. I miss him (and his family) very much and wish that Karen and I had the knack of convincing our children to live their adult lives close to us. But then I zoom out and realize if he had done that he wouldn’t have the life he has now, and I like him the way he is. My daughter reminds me that we all have our separate journeys. By God’s grace we are headed to the same place.
