Easy as pie…
#1620 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
April 28, 2026 “The closer one approaches to God, the simpler one becomes.” — St. Teresa of Avila
Remember those WWJD (What Would Jesus Do) bracelets that were popular about 15 years ago? That is how simple it becomes — whatever the situation, whenever a response is called for, for any choice I have to make. I begin with that question. It really simplifies any ambivalence that might arise.

Golf Tuesday, an epiphany…
#1621 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
June 4, 2026 When two people feel the presence of God at the same moment, it is quite powerful. A young man came over to the fence looking for his golf ball. He asked me what I was writing about and I told him God. He looked around at the beautiful surroundings and said, “Yeah, I get that.” “People make Him so small,” I told Him, “and He is really so big.” He nodded thoughtfully. “I need to remember that. Thank you.” He looked back at me as he was getting into his golf cart and our eyes met and we connected. It was a profound moment.

#1622 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
May 20, 2026 My all-time favorite principal retired for six months and then he had to look for another job — he said he ran out of things to do. I don’t think that would ever happen to me — partly because I still stay pretty active, but also because I am quite content living a contemplative life. I attribute that more to God than laziness.
“Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)

How God speaks to me: an explanation
#1623 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
June 8, 2026 First off, I start the day with two faithfacts ( — n. — articles of faith that are absolutely true to the individual): 1) God has a totally beneficent attitude toward me; 2) Jesus Christ is with me every moment to guide the way. My day becomes a search for corroborating evidence.

How God speaks to me, pt. II: an example
#1624 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
June 9, 2026 I had to walk to my 3 pm physical therapy appointment (K needed our car). It’s about 3/4 of a mile, and it was 94 degrees, and my back ached (I had played golf earlier). The session wasn’t too strenuous (my PT went easy on me.). But now I had to walk home and it was even hotter. I was calculating the distance from shade tree to shade tree, cursing myself for forgetting my cell phone so I couldn’t call Karen. Then some random cloud cover moved in — a gentle breeze picked up. It lasted until I was about 100 yards from my house. I know there are meteorological reasons for the clouds and the wind, but I heard Him speak to me.

Continuing how God speaks to me (pt. III — quite verbose for God)
#1625 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
June 10, 2026 God spoke to me right after the Spurs super-deflating loss to the Knicks in game 4. This is a translation, but I got the message: First off, this is a basketball game. Relax. You love basketball. Realize that all the dejection that you and your friends and every San Antonio fan feels is equally matched, no, overwhelmed, by the joy that is flowing through the streets of NYC right now. It’s a big city — they can use that. Finally, do not lose heart. This team that you love has shown itself capable of majestic highs and unfathomable lows throughout this magical season. You cannot presume to know the best universal result. Sit back and enjoy the ride.

Near the top of Family Sundays — Happy Father’s Day!
#1626 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
June 21, 2026 One of the things I’ve always loved about Father’s Day is it’s the last day of the U.S. Open, one of my favorite golf tournaments. Ho hum. Today Zack and I played our first rounds with Harlie and Elliotte (9 holes). Now that was a blast! (Still don’t know who won the Open)
I thank You, my heavenly Father, for giving me the privilege of being a father. And I thank You for giving my six granddaughters such wise and kind and loving fathers to guide them in the way they should go.
