#561 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
March, 2023. This is how God works: I was brows­ing Face­book and saw a post from a cou­ple Karen and I had known from the ear­li­est days of our mar­riage but had­n’t seen in about 45 years. They were vaca­tion­ing in Big Bend Nation­al Park. I mes­saged them to stop by on their way back to Mis­souri. We grilled and sat on the back porch and caught up and rem­i­nisced and laughed into the night. The evi­dence that God has had His hand on all of our lives was pal­pa­ble. We made break­fast and sent them on their way, pray­ing for trav­el mercies.

It’s Golf Tuesday!
#562 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
April, 2023. Golf course/back porch drama:
Golfer hits ball into my yard. I walk over and pick it up as he and his friend approach.
He: Aw, man, I’m sorry.
Me: (hold­ing up the ball) Can I ask you a moral/ethical question?
He: (slight­ly tak­en aback): What?
Me: Is this ball yours or mine?
He: (pause) Yours. I hit it into your yard.
Me: (toss­ing him the ball) You’re a good man.
He: (catch­ing it) You’re a bet­ter one.
How­ev­er you cut it, that is great dialogue.

April, 2023. One thing that makes me hap­py (per­haps joy­ous?) is that when I beseech God about my writ­ing project, when I am full of doubts and inhi­bi­tions, when I ques­tion the bal­ance of me and Him, I always get the same answer–keep writ­ing, Dallin.

#564 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
Decem­ber, 2022. One thing I am learn­ing: God will give me oppor­tu­ni­ties to do good. I just have to be open to it. It could be a chance to serve, it could be a dona­tion, it could be a ran­dom act of kind­ness, it is often just an empa­thet­ic ear; it can be as sim­ple as a smile or as com­plex as a self-sac­ri­fice. One thing I already know: Every time I do good I am serv­ing the King­dom, which ben­e­fits every liv­ing thing.

#565 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
March 2023. I fear the Word of the Lord (the Bible). His­to­ry has demon­strat­ed that human beings are as capa­ble of doing evil based on their “under­stand­ing” of the Bible as they are of doing good. I trust God to help me under­stand the Bible more than I do the Bible to help me under­stand God.

#566 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
April, 2023. Lis­ten­ing for God to speak and being open-mind­ed about how and what He wants to say is the best spir­i­tu­al dis­cov­ery I’ve made since I met Jesus. By far this is the most ful­fill­ing writ­ing project I’ve ever under­tak­en. How can I know if it is Him and not some sly dark force from with­out or with­in? His Word lays it out for me: “Final­ly, broth­ers and sis­ters, what­ev­er is true, what­ev­er is noble, what­ev­er is right, what­ev­er is pure, what­ev­er is love­ly, what­ev­er is admirable–if any­thing is excel­lent or praiseworthy–think about such things.” (Philip­pi­ans 4:8)

Fam­i­ly Sun­day strikes again!
#567 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
March, 2023. (Day 4 of Texas Malm­gren fam­i­ly reunion in Cana­da). Dylan (son-in-law) took me snow­shoe­ing. At the bot­tom of the trail we were in a val­ley next to a small pond, every­thing cov­ered by a blan­ket of snow. It was the most per­fect still­ness I have ever experienced…the only sound being my ragged breath­ing (snow­shoe­ing is hard!).
