#1730 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
February 17, 2026 Rate your pain, one to ten. I find that scale laughable. How can I know if my six is someone else’s three — and that other guy’s nine? We all have to handle our own pain. Thanks be to God that we don’t have to handle it alone.

Move me, Lord Jesus, on this Golf Tuesday…
#1731 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
March 1, 2026 It’s absolutely wonderful to be out there golfing with my old geezer friends after such a long absence (6 1/2 months). I can’t help noticing an uptick in the complaints (including my own) about the aches and pains that inevitably accompany senior golf. Even more troubling, it seems like more and more guys are playing fewer and fewer rounds, and several have disappeared entirely. I saw this comic, thought of my own convalescence, and remembered my #1 adage for senior physical (and spiritual) fitness: “You gotta keep movin’ or you’ll be left behind.”

Just because it has happened before doesn’t mean God isn’t making it happen…
#1732 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
March 11, 2026. I am continually blessed by our ROMEO (retired old men eating out) lunches. The different restaurants are fun, but the companionship is what makes it. I get relevant information, sports updates, an occasional small wager, health reports (of course, we’re old!), book and entertainment reviews, a certain amount of bs, and, every now and then wisdom. It is good not to grow old alone.

Do you hear what I hear?
#1733 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
March 14, 2026 My only musical gift is listening. As I’ve noted in previous posts, sometimes the music I choose is so beautiful and profound that it is like God speaking to me. Sometimes I just hear music. It is so faint that it could be celestial.

“Censorship is to art as lynching is to justice.” –Henry Louis Gates
#1734 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
March 15, 2026 My dear librarian friend recently posted a listing and a lament about all the books that are being banned from Texas school libraries at every level. Making certain thoughts dangerous is the cornerstone of authoritarian rule. I suspect the powers that be would be quite content if we stopped reading entirely.

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood…

March 4, 2026 “To travel well within your neighborhood is the greatest of journeys.” — Samuel Johnson
I love this! I don’t need to pursue adventures — I need to focus my attention on the present, be responsive to what or whoever God puts in front of me, love and do unto, and be thankful for where I am.

Malmgren family (Sunday) motto: Be tough
#1736 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
February 15, 2026 Nothing requires toughness like the exercise of faith in difficult circumstances. A daughter endures the disaster of a cancelled Mardi Gras family vacation due to an overbooked flight. A son returns home for a visit licking the wounds of an imminent divorce. Parents and child struggle to understand the vagaries of a coach’s decision about playing time at a national volleyball tournament. Through it all a truth rings out: God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God. Toughness clings to that truth.
