Who’s that knocking at my door?
#1413 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
April 5, 2025 “God comes to you disguised as your life.” –Paula D’Arcy. It is much easier for me to see the hand of God at work when I look at the big picture…He saved me from my reckless youth…He united me with a godly woman…He ordained me to be a teacher…He gifted me a comfortable retirement… But the real action comes from meeting God in the present, the here and now. It’s like the difference between texting and being face to face. When Jesus says “Abide in Me” He means right now.

#1414 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
March 13, 2025 Watching a father teach his son to play golf this evening right out in front of me. The boy messed up his first 90 yard chip, dad hit one to show him how, and the boy hit his next one closer to the pin than his dad’s–it was quite precious. The unexpected applause he got from me put a huge grin on his face.
Life is good.

The best hope for senior living…
#1415 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
March 23, 2025 “Therefore we do not lose heart, for though our outer person is decaying, yet our inner person is being renewed day by day.” (II Corinthians 4:16). How do I apply this verse? Prayer, meditation, walking in faith, reaching out to others, cultivating the fruit of the Spirit. I cannot do anything of eternal value without God.

Flirting with the East…
#1416 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
March 20, 2025 I believe in karma, the idea that the consequences of our actions will in some way come back to affect us. The Bible says that “…as a man sows, so shall he reap…” (Galatians 6:7) and the Beatles said “…the love you take is equal to the love you make…” (Abbey Road). There is a really cool statue in the New Orleans City Park sculpture garden called “Karma”. I know of one operative force that is even greater than karma. It is called grace.

#1417 HOW I SPOKE TO GOD TODAY
April 12, 2025 Thank You, Lord, for Your gentle hand upon my life. I thank You for my writing project–which causes me to really listen for Your voice and mine. I thank You for my wife–who is happy to share this rowboat with me as we learn to steer and move forward. I thank You for my children and theirs–who offer me my clearest vision of hope for the future. I thank You for my friends (past and present)–who make me glad that this is the life I have. I thank You for opportunities to express Your love–which are always available. And I thank You for my faith–which is my bridge to You.

O what peace we often forfeit…
#1418 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
April 10, 2025 I feel bad for people who don’t pray. I know a couple of people going through a crisis right now, and I’m pretty sure they will not pray about it. I can’t imagine being in a situation that has me mentally distraught and not turning to God. He wants to bear my burdens–He is able to comfort me–He knows the best solution to whatever problem I have. Oh, how lonely to have to handle it on your own!

Golf Tuesday meets Family Sunday…
#1419 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
April 26, 2025 An unveiling…I am blessed to be loved by my wife. Most men can say that, but today I feel special. As a birthday gift Karen painted me playing golf on my favorite hole. Isn’t it amazing?
