July 25, 2026 Many believers read the Bible in black and white; if the Bible says it, that proves it. When I consider all the awful things that have been done through history — the Inquisition, the Salem witch trials, slavery, child abuse, misogyny — using something from Scripture as justification, I realize that God and the Bible can part ways, at least in the human heart. It is not the authenticity of the Bible I question; it is the fallibility of those who read it.

August 3, 2026 Most dads will tell you their favorite person to play golf with is their son(s) — if their son plays golf. My son Zack loves golf as much as I do, but he only gets to play about once a month because he is so busy. I’ve never gotten to play with him on my course with my friends…until today. What a blast! Thanks, Lord

Does any issue outweigh character?

July 26, 2026 Most of my pro-Trump Christian friends admit that they don’t care much for the man, they just favor his policies. Even a cursory reading of the Old Testament reveals that character counts more with God than any policy, and that evil leadership can destroy a nation. We have an even clearer example here in Texas this year. I hope Christians follow their hearts and not their prejudices.

June 1, 2026 I wonder what that means for me? Sometimes I feel foolish for posting HGSTMT every day, like people must think I’m deluded. Or to think that my bank account is His not mine. Or to involve Him in something as trivial as a game of golf. I don’t care. In every obstacle or dilemma or difficulty I face, my first recourse is to turn to Jesus. In the world’s view that makes me weak and dependent, i.e., foolish, but in reality it is the wisdom of God.

July 28, 2026 This is the true pathway. I can observe the work of the Spirit externally — through the sturdiness of the live oak trees, through the flight of the Mississippi kites, through the loveliness of Karen’s plants, through the feel of a well-struck golf shot. Then comes the realization that this Selfsame Spirit dwells within me. “And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, to be with you forever.” (John 14:16). O glory! My daily aim becomes to yield to the Spirit, and so we become intimate, God and me. Like the song says “We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord.”

July 30, 2026 Many of us are so controlled by our minds that we repress our feelings and scarcely pay attention to our spirits. But they demand attention and so our mind uncontrol results in negative thoughts and depression. Marcus Aurelius says we can change that. I say, not without God’s help.
