“I’ve looked at life from both sides now…” –Joni Mitchell
#1662 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
June 26, 2026 I became a Christian when I was 26. I think the highest hurdle I had to get over was my opinion of the American church, As an outsider, I saw lots of artifice and hypocrisy and self-centered believing, and not much holiness. As an insider, I have seen innumerable acts of love and compassion and service done through the church. Now I observe a large segment of our church support an obviously corrupt administration led by a despicable human being and, as Joni says “I really don’t know life at all.”
Of this I’m certain: I trust Jesus to reveal His church far more than I trust the church to reveal Jesus.

Learning humility on Golf Tuesday…
#1663 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
July 16, 2026 God is trying to teach me through my everyday failures: clothing on the floor, unread emails, wasted food, scads of bad golf shots, unmade phone calls, forgotten resolutions, undone chores. I come to Him in the evening and acknowledge my weakness. And you know what? He doesn’t tell me to do anything. He tells me to believe. Believing is doing.

Let’s try “Sinners in the hands of a loving God.”

July 17, 2026 “There is perhaps no greater hell than living your life in fear of a god who is believed to use punishment to bring about holiness.” — Chris Kratzer
This is the message I have received from many refugees of the Church. If the sermon (or whatever) leaves them in fear, the preacher has lost Jesus. It’s like a parent saying “Come here, my child — or I will beat you.”

Getting by with a little help from my friends…
#1665 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
July 19, 2026 This was kind of cool. A dragonfly landed on my clipboard, encouraging me to write. (top left corner of clipboard — sorry for blurriness, awkward photo to take)

In all things…

July 15, 2026 temperate — (adj.) — calm, moderate, and self-controlled; avoiding excess.
That’s the quality the Holy Spirit has been driving home with me lately, probably because I can apply it to several areas of my life. One of my weaknesses is self-indulgence. It’s a good thing I’m a child of grace. Strengthen me, Lord

It’s not okay…
#1667 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
July 28, 2026. ICE killed (at least) two more innocent people in July. How can people who declare the sanctity of human life — even life in the womb — be okay with this? How can they support an administration that enables this?

Family Sunday, home alone…
#1668 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
July 9, 2026 Our recent family reunion reminded me of what a dramatic change it is when the last child moves out of the home. The smartest investment we can make is to refocus the extra time and energy on our spouses — and God. Although I’m not always successful at following through with those aims, it definitely pays off when I do.
