#739 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
August, 2022 (a year ago) I do experience some doubts about my writing project. All four of my sisters and several other relatives have asked to be taken off my email list. My own children barely acknowledge it (and then in kind of an embarrassed way). If I measure success by blowing up on social media, I am an abject failure. But I don’t. I believe this is what I am meant to write as much as I believe this is how He is speaking to me. And I believe there is a purpose to it. That is enough for me…(plus, I love this comic!)

Golf Tuesday–a day late and a dollar short…
#740 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
September, 2023 I played golf today for the first time in a month– more convinced than ever that it is a spiritual exercise. It was a bit like the first day of a school year–only fun. Today’s forgotten lessons: 1) process not results; 2) calmness is a decision; 3) the people are more important than the game. I have always believed that learning should be fun.

#741 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
May, 2023 If someone tells me I am not behaving like a Christian should, it probably means two things: 1) I have gotten off track and should get back on; 2) So has he.

#742 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
August, 2023 Action! Studying Titus and amazed at the emphasis placed upon our deeds: “They profess to know God but by their deeds they deny Him…” (1:16). “…show yourself an example of good deeds…” (2:7). “…purify for Himself a people…zealous for good deeds.” (2:14) “… to be ready for every good deed…” (3:1) “…those who have believed God may be careful to engage in good deeds.” (3:8) “…let our people also learn to engage in good deeds to meet pressing needs…” (3:14) Here’s the kicker: “He saved us not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness..” (3:5) A testament to the faith/works relationship–our good deeds are a response, not a prerequisite.

#743 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
July, 2023 My religion is a relationship. It is not about doctrines or denominations or even disciplines. The bottom line of my faith is do I believe Jesus Christ is present in this room with me at this very moment? Of course I do. Everything that is most important to me in this life stems from that–my wife, my family, my friends, my dog–all relationships. Jesus is the master of encapsulation: love God and love your neighbor.

(Went to a friend’s memorial service today–made me think of this…)
#744 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
November, 2022 A funny thought: I don’t want to hold on to life–I want to let go. When my time comes I want to be so ready to get there that saying goodbye to the people I loved the very most will be a courtesy.

Revisiting the road trip on Family Sunday…
#745 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
August, 2023 My daughter left her purse in the restaurant we had lunch in this afternoon. That means we have to drive backwards an hour and a half to get it (it’s there, thank You Jesus) before we continue our journey tomorrow. And it just struck me–this is Jesus’s perfect plan. I don’t get it, doesn’t seem perfect to me, what a hassle–but I don’t see the way Jesus sees. That is what faith is about. Thank You, Lord, we trust You, and we believe this is going to work out in the best possible way. (Photo of Bethany by prayer bush at Battle of Little Big Horn)
