Faith without works is dead…
HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
July 2, 2025 Jesus is alive right here in the present. If I had a salvation experience when I was a teenager but went on to live my life centered around myself and material possessions, am I nearer to God than the Buddhist who has not yet met Jesus but recognizes that God is omniscient and omnipresent and worthy of our deepest devotion?

HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
April 23, 2026 Karen and I have only one car, so sometimes she needs the car when I plan to play golf. Luckily (grace), I have a friend who lives nearby, who plays as much as I do, has his own cart, and is the nicest man I know ‑or- I can walk the quarter mile to pick up a cart to get my clubs and drive back. Rough life. I am glad we only have one car. It makes me feel ecological. Trying, Lord

HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
September 18, 2025 One of my best friends is experiencing an unrequited love affair. He cares so passionately for this woman–I had forgotten it can burn this hot. Loneliness — I’ve rarely visited that battlefield. Fixing our hearts on one thing as the source and direction of our love is a dangerous pursuit — unless that thing is God. Love demands an open channel and multiple targets.

April 12, 2026 “Kindness is in our power even when fondness is not.” –Samuel Johnson
It is easy for me to be supportive, to be helpful, to be attentive to my friend. The true test of my love is when those qualities are called for with someone I’m not particularly interested in or drawn or obligated to.

Love don’t have any place
We’re living in times
Where men commit crimes
And crime don’t have any face.”

Two crows on a Sunday morning egg hunt (and me and Spice on a dog walk). Mama mockingbird was having none of it. She (and four or five of her friends) led a fierce swoop-and-peck campaign, aided by about 15 barn swallows who must have felt similarly threatened. Mockingbirds won.

Family Sunday, the good ol’ days…
HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
April 1, 2026 April Fools’ Day. When my three kids were very young, I woke them up and told them their breakfast was on the table, and that I had to leave for school. As I was pulling out of the driveway, they came running out the front door, yelling and shaking their fists. On the kitchen table were three bowls of dogfood. Thanks for the memories, Lord
