Marching order Monday…
#469 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
Tuesday, November 8, 2022 My next marching order: *Look for opportunities to serve. I tend to wait for God to put me in a situation where I can express His love. My tendency is to be a pawn. Move me where You want me to go, Lord. But I’ve been given the powers of a knight or a bishop or a castle–I can be creative. (I don’t play chess, so this metaphor could be sketchy) I know that the Holy Spirit moves me to initiate, not just respond.

Too wet for golf, but it’s still Tuesday…(Oh yeah, Happy Valentine’s Day!)
#470 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
Monday, January 16, 2023 We senior men usually have a $5 or $12 game when we play. Even though it’s a small amount, it’s difficult for me not to allow the money factor to affect my game and my attitude. Of course, because it’s fun to win and it’s money! But God is having none of it–when I zoom out, I realize the money is inconsequential and the condition of my heart is fundamentally important. Both pride and greed are dark alleyways. Stay in the light.

#471 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
Monday, October 4, 2022 I have made an incredible discovery (thanks to my Sunday school class) that I suspect some of my christian friends already know about. It is a website called The Bible Project–a series of animated videos that tells you just about everything that you could ever want to know about the Bible. There is a video for each of the 66 books of the Bible–but also videos on How to Read the Bible, Literary Forms, Themes, Word Studies, and a boatload of stuff. The animations are clever and creative and entertaining. I have slogged through the Bible from beginning to end twice in my life. Karen and i are only through about a third of the Old Testament, and we both find it enlightening.

“Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
“Believe in the Lord Jesus and you shall be saved…”
(Acts 16:30)
So simple. So pure. Just take His hand and He will do the rest.

#473 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
Saturday, January 7, 2023 He spoke like a thunderbolt through my beloved Avett Brothers:
“Wouldn’t it be fine to stand behind
The words we say in the best of times…” from “Life”
My writing HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY doesn’t mean a thing if I am not responding to what He says. I’m not talking about following orders–there is a certain way God wants me to be. He wants me to be that way regardless of who I am around. How to comport myself is pretty well summed up in the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22–23). If I am nurturing that fruit, I am standing behind my best words.

#474 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
Wednesday, December 13, 2022 Awareness of His presence. I keep coming back to that. If I can carry that awareness as a fact of life, then every situation becomes manageable. It doesn’t have to be constant intimate contact. Just knowing He is back there is enough to spur me on to love and good deeds…

#475 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
Thursday, January 19, 2023 My emotions are such tricky things to deal with. The Spirit can advise me to be silent, but if I am upset the words will come bursting out. The Spirit can urge me to be conciliatory, but if I feel hurt I want to remain cold. The Spirit may be stirring me to move, but if I feel apathetic I will probably sit. A large part of self-control is simply listening to the Spirit instead of responding to my own emotions.
