April 22, 2026 Hmmm…that’s a hard one — it can so easily turn into idolatry. But I can come up with some: * there’s the archetype: my guys are the good guys and they beat the bad guys and the universe is just (or so I wish); * depth of emotion — it evokes a passion that doesn’t come up with most other areas of my life; * the abilities of the athletes are God-given talents — I am amazed at the incredible skill level they demonstrate in the most crucial situations; * the team creates a true fellowship of fans — from people who text every game to strangers who strike up a conversation; * when my team is playing well, the whole city is happier — God wants people to be happy. Thanks for sports, Lord Jesus Go Spurs Go!

April 24, 2026 As our group (8 to 24) of old men gather on the first tee, there’s an almost palpable sense of good humor. You’ll hear teasing and trash talk, side bets and, always, laughter. Most everybody is happy to be where they are. As I learn to be unaffected by the way I am playing — especially if I’m playing badly — I can maintain that sense of joy throughout the round, and, even better, carry it over to the rest of my day. God knew what He was doing when He inspired Old Tom Morris (or whoever it was) to invent golf.

May 16, 2026 I know “the power of positive thinking” seems like a shallow approach to life’s complexities — but I can’t help noting that “glass half full” people apparently navigate and enjoy their journey more than the “glass half empty” types. So how do I set my inner GPS on this higher road? The Apostle Paul tells me:: “…whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things.” (Philippians 4:8)

MAY 21, 2026 Sometimes God (through people) just pours out His grace upon me. I am, in fact, a peasant but I live like a king. Me and Zack and Josh (his best friend since elementary) drove to Oklahoma City and watched a Spurs game in hostile territory (great seats, loudest arena ever). We had an entertaining ride, played a fun golf course, stayed in a fabulous Airbnb, Door Dashed everything, and reconnected in ways that move hearts. It didn’t even matter that the Spurs lost (we’ll get them next game). O Lord, continue to lavish Your love upon us in ways that make Your presence undeniable.

May 15, 2026 Spice got punked! One of the reasons I love my dog is we are around the same age if we go by the dog years formula. She can rouse up a higher energy level, but she also sleeps 3 times more than I do. She considers herself master of the yard, and her greatest joy is to shoot out the sliding glass door and chase away any squirrel that has wandered in. Today she met her match. The photo captures it, but please note that Spice ended up slinking back to the porch to lay down while the squirrel held her ground and continued to chatter. She wouldn’t even look at me she was so embarrassed. Even dogs need humility, Lord
