Humanity love, episode two…
#1204 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
August 27, 2024 We went to the Raptor Show at the High Desert Museum in Bend, Oregon. The upclose display of these magnificent birds was absolutely awe-inspiring. What touched me equally was the emphasis the whole staff put on our role as conservator of the earth and how we can live harmoniously with all of creation. Or, as the Bible puts it “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof…” (Psalm 24:1)

Golf Tuesday, Club Championship pt. 3, grace upon grace…
#1205 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
September 13, 2024 God tells me on the golf course (and in life) that I am responsible for execution and He will take care of results. Today He reminded me that His gifts are more bounteous and creative than any human reward. My personal winnings from our senior men’s club championship were a break-even on the money and a beautiful rangefinder. How that all transpired can be filed under the last verse of the Gospel of John: “Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.”

August 24, 2024 Some philosophical questions: What if the primary purpose of our existence, the reason we are created in His image, is to learn to love? What if every other goal or objective pales in comparison? What if the final exam consists of only one question: How well did you love? How will I answer?

#1207 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
August 8, 2024 “Except for rare moments of grace, we still believe in a God who is hyperserious, wired, intense, pained, disappointed in us, disappointed in the world, and far from unconditionally forgiving. Yet the deep struggle of all religion is to enter into the joy of God.” –Ronald Rolheiser
If my communion with God does not bring me peace and love and joy, I have made a wrong turn somewhere.

#1208 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
June 1, 2024 “Declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous works among all the peoples!” (I Chronicles 16:24). As I declare it, He reveals it to me more and more. Is that how it works? My old fellowship had this one song that pierced me through the soul: “Yes, Lord I believe that You are the Christ/ the son of God who has come into the world/ and I will raise You up.” Teach me, Lord, how to declare Your glory so that others may know.

#1209 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
June 2, 2024 Simplify. That marching order takes on more significance as I progress on my journey. The middle of my life was certainly the most hectic (before that is a blur). My teaching career had so many stresses that I had school anxiety dreams four or five times a week when I first retired (still have them occasionally). Now time passes slowly. There’s a symmetry to it–come in simply and go out simply. Both stages have a tremendous capacity for joy. Keep it simple for me, Lord Jesus.
*I feel I should add that along with the stress I had tons of fun as a teacher.

Family Sunday, on the road…
#1210 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
September 3, 2024 Travel day. After two weeks’ vacation, we wake at 4:45 a.m. and fumble our way to the airport, and I want so desperately to be home that I pray for the plane to be on time and the flight to be smooth and our ride to be there and not one thing to go wrong (except Karen lost her neck pillow). And o that feeling of unlocking our door and stepping into our house. Thank You, Lord.
