I wrote this five day ago–two days ago there was a shoot­ing in Allen (5 miles away, 8 killed)…c’mon, Texas!

May, 2023 I try to stay away from polit­i­cal issues, but…I do not see how any­one can wor­ship God and love humankind, and wit­ness day after day after day the hav­oc tak­ing place in this coun­try, and not be in favor of gun control.

April, 2023 When I want some­one’s mon­ey, is that cov­et­ing or greed or avarice? God uses mon­ey to reveal dark spots in my heart. We have a $5 dai­ly golf game, and when we go in the club­house after­wards, every­body is hop­ing to win. If I allow the finan­cial results to affect in any way my atti­tude or my opin­ion of oth­ers or my pur­pose, I have wan­dered off the path and need to find my way back.

March, 2023 My friend Sam helped me real­ize this last night: Love is about tear­ing down walls. I think that is why it is so easy for us to love our children–there were no walls at the begin­ning! Love is active–it can’t be assumed, it must be demon­strat­ed. Build­ing walls is a human defense mech­a­nism. Love elim­i­nates the need for defense mech­a­nisms. Jesus came here to teach us how to receive love and how to pass it on.

March, 2023. Fear. One of my frus­tra­tions is that I am still a vic­tim of fear. I know that God is in con­trol and I am under His pro­tec­tion, but if I am on a high ledge look­ing down or there is great tur­bu­lence on my flight or I hear an inex­plic­a­ble noise in the night, I am filled with fear. O ye of lit­tle faith… “Per­fect love casts out fear…” (I John 4:13). I pray You will per­fect my love, Lord Jesus.

#558 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
April, 2023. Part of the secret of lis­ten­ing for God to speak to me is know­ing that this whole cre­ation is His, and He is ani­mat­ing it at this very moment. So all I have to do is look for beau­ty and truth and love in the present, and I know that He is behind it. While I am aware there are hor­ri­ble things hap­pen­ing on this plan­et, when I open my eyes I fre­quent­ly see beau­ty and truth and love in some com­bi­na­tion at work. I believe that Jesus calls us ves­sels because we are sup­posed to let that pass through us and reach others.

#559 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY

March, 2023. Crows. Six of them pick­ing at the dirt under the live oak tree. High on my favorites list of God’s cre­ations. Togeth­er like that they remind me of Supreme Court jus­tices, but a sin­gle crow brings to mind the prophet Samuel, call­ing out iniq­ui­ties the way he sees them.

#560 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
May 14, 2023 Pic­nic brunch at Dal­las Arbore­tum… “Every good and per­fect gift is from above, com­ing down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no vari­a­tion or shift­ing shad­ow.” (James 1:17) The food was per­fect, the com­pa­ny was per­fect, and the set­ting was per­fect. My wife and my daugh­ter-in-law both love this day. The Arbore­tum reminds me of what the whole plan­et would be like if human­i­ty had faith­ful­ly accept­ed the stew­ard­ship God gave us over His creation.
