February 16, 2026 I learned a new definition today — Type 2 fun: — (n.) — activities that are miserable, challenging or uncomfortable while happening but become rewarding, fulfilling, and fun to look back on afterward. I suppose my whole torn rotator cuff experience could be categorized as Type 2 fun. Hmmm. I think I prefer Type 1.

February 25, 2026 Look at the bobcat! This is 30 yards from my house. Of course I worry about Spice’s safety, but it is a ferocious sight to behold. A line from The Tyger by William Blake: “Did He who made the lamb make thee?”

February 23, 2026 “I found I had less and less to say, I became silent, and began to listen. I discovered in the silence the voice of God.” –Soren Kierkegaard
Listening is one of the skills I am nurturing. It’s what Jesus did. One of the best times to listen is when I’m alone.

#1726 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
February 24, 2026 “The rule for all of us is perfectly simple. Do not waste time bothering whether you “love” your neighbour; act as if you did. As soon as we do this we find one of the great secrets. When you are behaving as if you loved someone, you will presently come to love him. If you injure someone you dislike, you will find yourself disliking him more. If you do him a good turn, you will find yourself disliking him less.”
— C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity
Mere Christianity — Still the best explanation of what Christianity is that I’ve ever read.

January 11, 2026 Sister Joan Chittister explains: “When we are consciously grateful for life, when we praise all the goodness in our lives, we make our lives happier. According to Positive Psychology, there are five areas of our lives that are directly affected by the degree of gratitude we bring to them: our emotional well-being, our social life, our personality, our career benefits, and our physical health.” –from The Monastic Heart

#1729 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
February 27, 2026 Karen has gone to visit her sister in Connecticut for a week and I am home with Spice. As we get older, we are both content to laze around doing little. Our favorite place to do this is our back porch. It is the best retirement gift I have received from the Lord.
