#943 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
February, 2024 This from my quiet time: “Prayer is a matter of keeping at it. The rewards will come no other way. Thunderclaps and lightning flashes are very unlikely. It is well to start small and quietly. No need to tell one’s friends and acquaintances. No need to plan heroic fasts or all-night vigils. You should have it firm in your mind that prayer is neither to impress other people nor to impress God. It’s not to be taken with a mentality of success. The goal in prayer is to give oneself away.” –Emilie Griffin

#944 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
January, 2024 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous.” Such a direct command. Yet I fall short so often: standing over an important putt; struggling with a bout of insomnia; being honest when it’s not easy; loving the Lord? I would despair if not for the rest of the verse: “Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)

#945 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
March, 2024 “Thus saith the Lord…” Every so often I feel the need to explain to whoever is reading this–that is not what this writing project is about. I am writing about a relationship. This is how I perceive God is interacting with me. I have no idea what He wants to say to you. But of one thing I am absolutely confident: If you will listen, He will speak to you.

#946 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
MARCH, 2024. I have observed that most conflicting discussions about religion and politics are fruitless. That creates a dilemma for Christians, because the discovery that we have a living Savior who is willing to enter into our daily lives is the best thing that ever happened to us. Since His resources are unlimited, of course we would like to share. What I’m learning is that sharing can only be effective when it is done in His power, not mine.

#947 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
March, 2024 “A soft word turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” (Proverbs 15:1). O my goodness, the key to interpersonal relations, especially of the marital kind! Teach me, Lord, to be wise with my tongue, one of my most unmanageable instruments.

#948 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
March, 2024 When God says to love my neighbor, He means: 1) My family–of course, we all love our families; do I love them like He loves me? 2) My friends–friendship is ministry; I have a calling to help my friends whenever I see a need or possible kindness. 3) My neighbors–those people who inhabit the periphery of my daily life; God has proven over and over that He will create opportunities to express His love in ways I do not expect. 4) My enemies–I don’t have enemies like King David–but I do have people who have done a perceived wrong, who have annoyed me or rubbed me the wrong way. The challenge is to treat these people exactly like those in the above categories. Impossible to do in my own power…that’s why the first part of the greatest commandment is to love God.
