This is the only political post (sort of) I’m going to make in 2022–don’t forget to vote!
#372 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
Tuesday, September 20, 2022 This song touched my heart…
“My church and country could use a little mercy now
As they sink into a poisoned pit that will take forever to climb out
They carry the weight of the faithful who follow them down
I love my church and country and they could use some mercy now
Every living thing could use a little mercy now
Only the hand of grace can end the race towards another mushroom cloud
People in power, well, they’ll do anything to keep their crown
I love life, and life itself could use a little mercy now
Yeah, we all could use a little mercy now
I know we don’t deserve it but we need it anyhow
We hang in the balance, dangle ‘tween hell and hallowed ground
Every single one of us could use some mercy now
Every single one of us could use some mercy now”

#373 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
Wednesday, November 2, 2022 I just got back from an overnight golf trip with my old men buddies, and God whispered in my ear that I should read Tennyson’s “Ulysses” once again. These are the last few lines:
“Though much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength, which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are,
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.”
Wonderful Poetry!

#374 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
Tuesday, October 11, 2022 This is how I think the Holy Spirit works in my life:
Two years ago…(our dog scratching at the door to get in)
Wife: Get her, would you?
Me: You’re closer.
Tonight…(our dog scratching at the door)
Wife: Could you let her in?
Me: Sure.

#375 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
Thursday, September 22, 2022 Someone I love explained to me that he has tried to believe and he can’t–he lacks faith. That creates a conundrum for me. Faith is not a commodity–it is a choice. You can’t possess faith, you have to stream it. Jesus says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any man hears my voice, and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” (Revelations 3:20) Faith is the door–we have to choose to open it.

#376 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
Tuesday, September 6, 2022 Another come-to-Jesus moment: Doubt. Thomas doubted after spending three years with Him. Doubt is our perpetual visitor, and all we can do is decide whether to let it in or not. And it knows all the entrances. My answer is no. That doesn’t make me close-minded or doctrinaire or exclusionary. I only have to decide for one person–me. His presence is too inviting–too vital–too essential for me to choose to doubt.

We went to a memorial service today–the church was packed. This man knew God…
#377 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
Saturday, August 20, 2022 “All is vanity and striving after wind…” (Ecclesiastes 1:14) That is my definition of living your life without having a relationship with your Creator.

#378 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
Wednesday, September 21, 2022 Sometimes the diversity of human life on this planet is overwhelming. It seems to reduce God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit into just another three choices of the menu–like a relationship with our Creator is take it or leave it. Which I suppose it is. Then I zoom out and look at the big picture and it is undeniable that we are completely mucking up our collective habitation of the planet. Ah, humanity.
