An appropriate post on the first day of early voting…
#1225 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
October 8, 2024 I consider myself an apolitical (adj. — uninterested and uninvolved in politics) person. I do, however, consider it my civic duty to vote. It astonishes me that a man who has so clearly revealed his moral character can still be considered a viable candidate to lead our country. It especially grieves me that a large measure of his support is drawn from my Christian brothers and sisters. I do not understand this, Lord Jesus. I trust someday You will explain it to me. (Yes, we did vote)

#1226 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
September 22, 2024 “The beautiful thing about getting older is that we want fewer and fewer of life’s toys. It’s what we have inside, not outside, that counts now.” –Joan Chittister
Apart from grousing about how we feel and what our bodies can no longer do (and our golf course, naturally), many of us recognize that these could very well be the best years of our lives. Thanks for the plan, dear Lord.

#1227 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
September 24, 2024 My fortune cookie: “It’s your attitude not your aptitude that determines your altitude.”
And so: “Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13–14)
Enough said!

#1229 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
September 21, 2024 Today was my first experience with Centering Prayer. Ten of us sat in a circle in an Episcopal church in Cape Girardeau and meditated. Here are the four R’s of Centering Prayer: *Resist no thought. *Retain no thought. *React to no thought. *Return ever so gently to the sacred word (I used a mantra). The purpose: to experience God’s presence within us, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself.
Sure enough, God was there.

#1230 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
August 8, 2024 “It is consistency of consciousness, the effort to put ourselves in the presence of God over and over again in the course of the day, that prepares us for the abiding Presence that is the home for the soul.” –Joan Chittister
That is my daily goal, that consistency of consciousness.

Family Sunday, realistically…
#1231 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
September 25, 2024 Of this I am certain: God does not take sides in a marital conflict.
