#1259 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
July 7, 2024 Marching orders. A couple years ago I published 12 marching orders as a Christmas card. These are very important to me because they are instructions on how to proceed on the journey. The Bible is full of marching orders: be anxious for nothing–do unto others–be strong in the Lord… Some of mine are tailored especially for me: simplify–be present–be quicker to listen than to speak. “I want to be in that number when the saints go marching in”

Golf Tuesday, on the road…
#1260 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
November 11, 2024 My friend Paul took three of us to play at a very nice course he had free passes to. What fun to play at a different, beautiful place! It’s hard not to covet another man’s golf course when it’s such an obvious upgrade. But for all its faults, I love our course–and I wouldn’t trade the guys I play with for anyone. The sole effect of coveting is to make one less happy with what he has. No thanks.

A prelude to Thanksgiving…
#1261 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
November 22, 2024 “Thankfulness may consist merely of words. Gratitude is shown in acts.” –Henri Amiel
Or, put in street lingo: “Don’t talk the talk if you can’t walk the walk.” Dear Lord, help me to demonstrate my gratitude in this Thanksgiving season.

#1262 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
November 28, 2024 As we sit down to eat, we need to remember the source of Thanksgiving: “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” (James 1:17)

#1263 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
August 21, 2024. “And God saw that it was good, indeed it was very good.” (Genesis 1:31). — “To believe that we and our world are good, very good; to take delight in our lives and each other; to live lives that radiate joy rather than depression, boredom or resentment; well…that sounds simple and easy, but remains a rare thing that is seldom accomplished.” –Ronald Rolheiser
It does not have to be. There is a lot more freedom in Christ than most Christians allow for.

#1264 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
October 4, 2024 Sometimes God will tell me I’ve had enough. It could be potato chips, it could be ice cream, it could be sleep, (it definitely could be Thanksgiving dinner!), it could be something else. I have an urge to want more. I still sometimes ignore His voice, but I am getting better at hearing it. And listening.

Family Sunday when there is not family here…
#1265 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
November 23, 2024 My study is a sacred place. Not that I always treat it that way, but that’s what it is. Clear to me every day is the gestation of the family God gave to me. All of my relics are reminders of pleasant memories along the journey. Every photograph and painting has a special meaning to me. If I add candlelight and Gregorian chants, it’s very easy to imagine I am sitting at His feet.
