#964 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
February, 2024 Advice for the goal of “…praying without ceasing…”: “Inner prayer, if it comes to a man’s spirit when he is with other people, demands no use of lips or books, no movement of the tongue or sound of the voice; and the same is true even when you are alone. All that is necessary is to raise your mind to God and descend deep into yourself, and this can be done everywhere.” –from The Art of Prayer by Igumen Chariton of Valamo

Golf Tuesday, the best of times…
#965 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
May 9, 2024 Look at this group of merry old men (nice panoramic, Dan)! A golf getaway is the opposite of staying home and vegetating. It is a tonic for the soul; it builds deeper relationships; it is a great source of information (senior men are dealing with many common issues); and it fulfills my number one axiom for senior physical fitness: you gotta keep movin’.

February, 2024 Disappointment. Certainly it can be deflating, but the first curative step is to zoom out and see the big picture. If I am disappointed, doesn’t that indicate that my expectations for a given situation were not properly aligned with God’s? Thy will be done. Disappointment disappears when confronted by faith.

February, 2024 Dross (n.) — something regarded as worthless; rubbish. I realize that I hold onto too much dross in my life. All that is selfish, all that is prideful, all that is mean-spirited.…there is much yet that needs to be healed. Remember the blessed hymn: “…the flames shall not harm thee, I only design
thy dross to consume and thy gold to refine.”

#968 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
May, 2024 There is someone who enjoys hanging out in our backyard as much as I do. My attractions are golfers and God, and hers are rabbits and squirrels. Like that religious ad says, He gets us.

February, 2024 This is significant: “The Lord will reveal Himself and enter into our lives to the extent we believe this is really possible and want it. ‘Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find.’ No one respects our freedom as completely as He does. ‘Behold I stand at the door and knock and IF one opens it I will come in.’ He never pushes the door open; He waits for us to open it.” — M. Basil Pennington

#970 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
April 9, 2024 God’s hand was very much at work around this dinner table. Not everyone there recognized it, but I did.
