#915 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
January, 2024 Three statements in Romans 5: “…we exult in hope of the glory of God.” (v. 2). “…we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance…” (v. 3) “…we also exult in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.” (v. 11) So much exulting I had to look it up: exult: (v.) feel or show triumphant elation or jubilation. According to our brother Paul, we have a lot to be happy about. Perhaps I need to do more exulting?

Golf Tuesday comin’ at ya from the Yantis cafe…
#916 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
March, 2024 Nineteen of us men went on an overnight golf getaway. Just playing a different course was fun, but I see a deeper perspective. God has impressed upon me the importance of friendship at this stage of our lives. There is nothing like family, but all of my family have full and active lives going on. I love and respect that. God wants me to stretch myself farther than family. I do not want to isolate myself as I decline–that leads to loneliness and depression and dead faith. Friendship is an elemental human need.

#917 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
January, 2024 Cold weather and football–two things that make it easier for me to drift away from the Lord. I’m lucky that I have nowhere else to go (and that they’re both over for the time being).

#918 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
February, 2024 Most of the time God speaks to me through His Word, or other Christian writers (some non-Christian), or an occasional song lyric, or an event or coincidence, or something someone says to me–man, I love the diverse ways God chooses to speak! But the most mystical and magical is through a sense of His presence. It happened last night on my porch. I haven’t been out there much because of winter. Conditions were perfect–long-sleeve t‑shirt weather, the slightest breeze, not many birds or golfers, no bugs. I sat there with Spice on my lap, and I wondered how God can make the familiar as awe-inspiring as an incredible vista? Dusk turned into night and I got my answer as I looked up into the sky.

January, 2024 Why I keep writing: “The important thing is to recognize that our gift, no matter what the size is, is indeed something given to us, for which we can take no credit, but which we may humbly serve, and, in serving, learn more wholeness, be offered wondrous newness.” –Madeleine L’Engle

#920 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
February, 2024
“Some people cower and wince and shrink
Owing to fear of what people might think.
There is one answer to worries like these–
People can think whatever they please.”
–from Grooks by Piet Hein
I memorized that poem in the seventh grade and have carried it with me ever since. It has been very helpful in training me to be myself. The Bible has a more succinct way of putting it: “The fear of man brings a snare.” (Proverbs 29:25)

Joyous Easter!
#921 HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME TODAY
March 31, 2024 Had a wonderful Easter Sunday–a fine church service, a fabulous Easter dinner (thanks, Karen), fun with the girls, and a back porch visit with Zack and Kallie while Karen took them to the park. Blessings great and small.
