January 17, 2025 “I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them never happened.” –Mark Twain
There is only one power that can overcome anxiety–faith.

March 12, 2025 Another golf getaway. “There is nothing on this earth more to be prized than true friendship.” –Thomas Aquinas
This is our sixth or seventh golf getaway as roommates. I am usually the organizer of these trips–if the guys realized how many helpful things he did they would thank him more than me. Besides that, we have a blast playing golf together. Thank You for Paul, Lord.

February 13, 2025 The old financial bugaboo comes around every so often…we live on a pension, the economy is scary, what if disaster strikes? Yet we live very comfortably and there is no imminent threat. All we have to do is be generous and act as good stewards, which is what we want to do anyway. When I take these concerns to the Lord, He gives me this verse: “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want…” Amen

A pitch for spiritual education…

March 5, 2025 The University of God–I have enrolled. The campus is unbelievable and the curriculum is diverse and enriching. There’s only one Instructor (ably assisted) and His students are numberless, but one to One discourse is available to me and everyone all the time. I am allowed to work at my own pace. There is no grading system but I always know how I am doing. No attendance is taken, but why would I want to skip? I am guaranteed a perfect position when I graduate, and the tuition is ridiculously underpriced.

February 22, 2025 Faithfulness. Our pastor is doing fruit of the Spirit sermons and tomorrow is faithfulness. I am anticipating what he/she might say. It is certainly being responsible for what I say I will do, as in the faithful servant. But it’s much more than that. Faithfulness includes the conviction that whatever the situation, God has it under control. Faithfulness is: I know You got this, God, what can I do to help?

March 17, 2025 This from my quiet time: “This past week, how did you use your talent of love? Who did you see this week? Who did you take time for? We’re always so busy, but how many people in our life, in our own family, haven’t heard from us in a long time? Did we work at developing that talent of love, that talent of compassion, that talent of joy, that talent of faith? To whom did you give yourself this week?” — Fr. Edward Farrell
These are questions I should ask myself every Sunday

Family Sunday from the University of God…

February 10, 2025 Marriage 101: I am reading a book called The Love Dare which encourages me to approach my marriage from the perspective of unconditional love. It is a 40 day devotional with a suggestion of something to do each day that will cause Karen to feel loved. Today I am to make an “unexpected gesture of kindness.” Hmmm. That sounds exciting.
